Today is Memorial Day for my Dad

I couldn't say that any one day is particularly sadder than another, but it is nice to have that one day especially to remember him

18 years have passed since we lost him from our lives :(

It could have been yesterday........
I won't re-write the events, there is a link below to the full story

http://blackstonemyst.blogspot.com/2009/08/it-was-all-of-things-i-didnt-get-to.html

My brother will come over for dinner tonight, which is the one thing we have done every year on the 29th of August

I don't go to the cemetary because 'he' is not 'there' - I tell my sons 'Your Grandfather is in our hearts, and he is where you want him to be, when you need him to be'

We love you Dad, we miss you......

~QuiCk uPdAte~

More for my recording of events purposes really....

I saw my GP today, finally....
He was running AN HOUR LATE - good job I'm patient

Fuck knows what I caught in that waiting room, it was FULL - 4 or 5 doctors working today, and they were all coughing their guts up and sneezing and god knows what......grrr....

So anyhoo I need further blood tests and he is trying me on a different type of antibiotic, I did read this is used to treat MRSA so I am guessing it is the one to use when antibiotics don't work

I will be interested to see what my Vitamin D level is

~ A ReSt HoMe ~

So this place has turned into a bit of a rest home

For anyone not on Facebook the old boy has 'injured' his medial ligament (knee area) is on crutches (which he wont use) and a knee brace (which he grizzles about) and is supposed to be resting it for at least a week....

Easier said than done when you are active/easily bored.....

The facebook comments were funny - the ones from the people that know him eluded to the fact that he is not a patient patient..........

And one less physically able person in the house leaves more for me to do, which any other time would be totally fine except that I am still dragging myself around (will TRY and get a GP appointment this week to get it sorted out once and for all)

I am so grateful for the boys helping out where they can, and that Small Man is at home all of the time and can help keep an eye on Dad and make sure he's not attempting to do things he's not supposed to (like jumping up and down on the spot to see if it hurts)...

I have arranged STOSS therapy for Small Man - he takes 40,000 IU vitamin D once per week for 3 months - this is a fair sized dose - one regular vitamin D tablet is 1,000 IU - so it's like taking 40 of those....I'm pleased, at least it wont drag out forever like it did for Possum.
The sun was out for a while today, so we sat together outside for 20 minutes and caught a few rays :)

The pharmacist was amazing - the therapy was only available at the one chemist and I had not been there before - wow, she was great!
She had to ring my GP to ask a few questions and ended up advising him of further tests she would like to see SM have.
There is a link between vitamin D deficiency and thyroid also weight gain and fatigue, and quite a few other things....all of these things he has tested regularly but she came up with a few extra things for next time...
She was fascinated by SM's case, as they often are.
She explained to me how his liver function would be affecting his vit D levels and the vicious cycle of it all...

My GP agreed I need my level checked also.
Trouble is my GP is only there 4 days per week, and I rang at 8.30am twice last week for his cancellation appointments (one for SM, one for Big A - theirs were more urgent) and was just too tired Friday to stay awake until 8.30am to ring again for myself....
(I get up with Possum at 7am, he leaves for work at 8.05am - I am usually asleep again on the couch by 8.20am).
Failing ringing up at 8.30am you have to book in a few weeks in advance.....it's ridiculous how booked up the GP's are...

So that's about it for me....
How was your weekend?
It's been quiet around here.....

Taking a break from 'teh internetz' - til tomorrow

Have had enough of trolls....
and arguments....
things/comments being taken the wrong way......
and not being sure how to take things.....
points being missed by miles.....
what people actually mean.....
who is genuine and who isn't.....
attention seeking.....
wishing people would think before they speak/type.....
missing children and the heartache and high emotion that comes with it.....it brings out the best AND worse in everyone all at once....
photos of dead babies..... :(

It's doing my head in to be honest.

~ FloW oN ~

I have been considering the flow on effect of Small Mans illness - none of these are negatives, purely my observations :)

And how we have modified our lifestyle to fit over the past 4 years

We don't do anything that's physically strenous/challenging together any more

Or anything that could make him feel worse

Possum has been a blessing, in that he will give up his own socialising to keep his brother company

I love what great mates they are

Big A has continued his fishing/camping/karate, he is a restless/adventurous/ easily bored soul and it's important for him to keep up with these things and be active or he would go mad

For me, I'm not fazed what works, how it works, what we do or don't do - as long as it's right at the time

I don't see my friends as often as I used to, but then again they know where I am too!

That being said I think it has possibly/most likely contributed to the Vitamin D deficiencies!!
Not enough outdoor time...

I would like to guess that mine is low as well........it would explain a lot......

Will be glad to get this side of things sorted out next week when my GP returns from holidays.....

~ I kNeW It ~

I KNEW there was more to Small Man's fatigue at the moment than his usual chronic fatigue.

He has been really, really struggling just to get through the day, and he is having more and more trouble trying to push himself

When Matt was organising his blood tests I happened to ask for him to check his Vitamin D level

It is 18

Normal is 50 - 100 but closer to 100 is preferred

It's as low as Possums Vit D level was last year when he was coming home from college and going straight to bed, excessively fatigued etc.....

Not one to screw around Matt wants Small Man onto some super heavy duty stuff to get his levels back to normal quickly - remember how long it took Possum? Months.........

Glad to know I'm not making shit up

And that there is a solution for this part of his health.........

~QuiCkLy~

Just a quick update - with no news - nothing has happened just settling back into day to day life

But mentally preparing as I go

SM had his brain MRI yesterday, and I am assuming it was all good :)

I'm still battling tonsillitis, but am adapting to it now, sort of like an animal that has lost a limb or something....ya know...

No really, I rang to get an appointment with my GP Monday, to get a referral to an ear/nose/throat doc - and he is away for 2 weeks

So I'm just going to ride it out, yes I could see someone else but they don't know all of my 'stuff' and might refer me to someone different to who my GP wanted me to see....and so on....

2 weeks doesn't seem like much when it has been 10 or 11 months.....

Bah!

Apple cider vinegar and Manuka honey didn't work unfortunately :(

Anyway, I am almost through my 'busy' week, and will have a very quiet week next week, so can look forward to that

~ThE sTrAnGeSt THinG HaPpEnEd~

I really thought I had put on a lot of weight

We ate McDonalds 4 times while we were away - one of the hazards of being away from home with an 'SED' child - if in doubt go with what you know....

I will admit I don't usually eat breakfast and so having Maccas once at around 11am when we arrived (we didn't get time to eat before we left and our flight was delayed) twice at 8.30am for breakfast was unusual for me

It was enough though, I didn't need lunch on any of the days

Another night I had a 'main course' sized pasta from La Porchetta and ate it all....

I was dreading the scales - like really dreading them - I felt for sure I had put on at least 2-3kg - but it felt like 5kg

I decided to get it over and done with last night, and weighed myself

Squinting at the numbers with one eye shut and the other only half open

And I have lost 3kg - at least - go figure!!

Weird........
