What are you going to do?

With your 'Rudd Money'?

My overseas friends may be scratching their heads at this point wondering just what the hell I'm on about!

Basically - the government here is giving out $8.7 billion to pensioners, carers, lower income earners (which I think the cut off for FTB 'A' is $150,000 combined annual income, so most people I know should be eligible) in a once off bonus payment - approx $1000 per dependant child, $1400 for pensioners etc to try and boost the economy.
The full details are here

We are being encouraged to spend the money.

I have read some 'interesting' points of view from 'experts' on how the money will be spent - some say pokies and alcohol will be a big winner - ummm not in this house!
Personally I think they're just jealous they're not getting it!

Given the fact that we have really struggled for the last four years while Big A was undertaking his apprenticeship I won't be rushing out to buy anything straight up.

Also I work for commission and my January pay is next to nothing.
February not much better.
So essentially I get paid 10 months of the year - and work 12.

So - what do you have planned for yours?

You don't have to tell me - just curious!

Tania ~ it certainly takes the pressure off.

Kristy ~ Bugger. I'm still not sure if we'll get it either it's confusing - I know I'll get one payment because I get carer allowance for Small Man.

We have five kids on one wage.
The three oldest kids are from my first marriage and we will get a percentage of their $1000 because ex still has access to them and qualifies for a third of each.

We will get $3 800 and I owe $3800 on the credit card - hilarious! Mine is going on bills. :(

Natalie ~ ah, but think of the interest you'll save! Good to start the new year without that debt.

Ali ~ Welcome! And darn! There seems to be some confusion over it - a few people have told me today they thought they were getting it, and now they don't think they are....how did you find out?

Not getting anything but if I were I'd buy a lens for my camera. Definitely would be a splurge.

Top of my list is the dentist but I'm paying that into Visa first before I go, killing two birds with one stone (for a moment). Then pick up two pairs of glasses from OPSM and look around for the best buy of my favourite perfume.
Anything left will go under the mattress for the inevitable crisis.

Chelle ~ hmmm...I get a bit of part A and a bit of part B - I read up on it and kids are still kids until they're 21 if they earn less than 12,000 a year. Still not sure, the website says I will get 1 for Small Man for carer allowance - but I'll be happy with that :)

Lou ~ No need for you to apologise - I don't hold you personally responsible my friend ;)

Sheila ~ That'd be a great purchase!

JahTeh ~ Sounds like you have yours worked out nicely :)

I got an extra $657 for arrears!!! So that money is going to be for me and me alone. The other 3 grand is going on bills and getting put away. And a bit on Xmas pressies :)

This Canadian would squirrel is away because it's outside of the budget and I won't miss what I never expected.

However, spending it on booze and ciggies appeals to me as well.

Toni ~ yay for the extra! I'm getting a little more than I expected too (cos of Small Man and Distance Ed).

Warriorwoman ~ That was my thought too - but then I have a husband that MUST have a plasma screen tv in order to survive life on this planet...ahem! Still plenty left over.
