The Calm Before The Storm....

Yesterday, as it turns out, was just the calm before the storm here.
Small man was sleeping on the couch, he'd been coughing etc yesterday morning and looked a bit 'off'.....he ended up with a fever that quickly rose from 37.4 degrees to 38.6 degrees and rising within half an hour - he started hallucinating and getting pain in his legs.

I panicked!! I rarely ever panic - Z fell off the fence and broke both bones in his forearm when he was 7 - the bones were nearly sticking through his skin eeeewww! I was calm and in charge! organising pillows and a blanket, delegating who was to ring the ambulance etc etc!
I think that I have been so worried about my small man for so long I just didn't have a clue what to do and went to the pack.
So I rang the Big A - I think I just needed him to tell me to ring the doctors surgery. So I did.

They told me to bring him straight down, or if he deteriorated any further on the way in, go straight to the emergency dept at the hospital - I didn't really want to do that unless I had to, his resistance and immunity are obviously quite compromised at present, not to be all Michael Jackson but who knows what else he'd catch in there.
His doctor was pretty concerned when he saw us, small man looked terrible, still had a fever and sinus/throat/chest infection to go with it.
So today we are propped up with the ventilator/steam thingy to help loosen his cough, pillows are hanging out on the clothes line to freshen up, beds stripped and re-done, bathroom scrubbed and disinfected, clean hankies all ready to go, the computer keyboards have had the big wipe down - and hope for the best.

Tomorrow is another day....

Oh God, you poor buggers. There is nothing worse than when kids go through that. After Miss 21mth olds efforts at the drs a few weeks ago, I feel for you with the panic thing!! And he really has been so poorly lately that it isn't any wonder you freaked out. When my 7yr old was 4 he suddenly got a headache, 41 degree temp and was slurring his speech. Went to Drs who put us in isolation and told me he prob had Meningitis!! You can imagine.... He was fine, just a virus, but it is easy to panic when it is our bubs, no matter how old they are. Sending love to you and your samll guy. He will be fine. xoxo

Thanks Toni. He has picked up a bit this morning, his brother is home today too - he came down with the fever last night, at least I was prepared for it this time!
That would have been very scary with a 4 year old, I had meningitis when I was 15 - bacterial I think it was, not the 'really bad' version of it (viral?). It took ages for me to recover, and possibly trigged the lupus some of the doc's have suggested - goody.

I have decided that small man's fever is going to burn all of the other bugs out of his system, and when he gets better from this latest bout he'll be as good as new. So it has to happen now, 'cos I've decided it will! He he!
Positive thoughts......

Thank you again, how lovely you are - so pleased to have 'met' you. xoxo

p.s. How long is your man home for?

He home for 1 week. And I have a wishing stone I bought off the lovely Sev, and I have been wishing for him to get better straight away. And it will work!! Poor you having both of them sick, I know my oldest thinks he is dying when he has the flu and they only get worse as they get older!! Good-luck, xoxox
