It occured to me last night whilst watching my usual gamut of programs on Austar just what mixed messages the collection of some of these shows are sending!
Starting with Supersize versus Superskinny - o.k. a good concept to pair up a supersize with a superskinny person - swap their diets for a few days and see what they can learn from each other. I watched this for the first time last night and thought it was pretty good.
Then there is that annoying 'poo' obsessed woman on 'You Are What You Eat' that in my opinion doesn't look that healthy. Yes the show is quite good and any change in lifestyle for some of these people is great - their diets are beyond ridiculous. There is much to be learnt about a healthy diet and exercise from watching this.
BUT THEN......
You get the "How To Look Good Naked" series - showing you how to dress regardless of your size and encouraging you to flaunt it.....hmmm.....in public....uh nuh!
AND THEN...
'Trinny and Susannah' and their series of shows on 'What Not To Wear' - also very imformative programmes on how to dress for you body type - what to wear to look slimmer etc. I like this show and have learnt a lot from it.......
BUT....
At the end of it I'm confused - am I meant to be losing weight.....or just throwing on some slimming undies and forgetting about it?????
Has anyone else noticed this....or do I just watch WAY too much Austar when I should be in bed??

We avoid all those shows and stick to Romans feeding Christians to the lions :P
Happy Birthday Small Man :)
we don't have austar or any of the others, but I've always had an issue with my weight. I use the shows that are on tv to help me look mostly nice through my weight loss :) but days like today I feel heiferish in my trackies and t-shirt, but I'm soooooo comfy lol
I'm glad small man had a great birthday :)
Gina, you are a gorgeous woman. You have to be comfy with you - after all, it's you that lives in your body - no one else. (Well, there is one minor exception, but we won't go into that. So to speak) It's what YOU want for YOU. If your health - physical or mental - is at risk because of the size of your body (large OR small), then you must take steps to regulate your body mass so your mental and physical health are maintained. but after that - how you look and feel is strictly up to you. And should concern ONLY you. What's really important in a woman - in terms of who and what she is - happens from the neck up and between the ears.
Happy Birthday Small man!
Be healthy- forget the shows. But I do like Trinny and Susannah. But we get the other "what not to wear"!
I'll have to look BBC and see if they have it.
Jayne you wench !!!!!
I know what you mean Myst.
The reality for me is, I am never going to be a size 4, so I guess, I need to get myself to say a 16, and then learn how to choose clothes that flatter my figure.
First, I agree with everything Lou wrote.
Now, if you want to know which woman I would want to be with, if we are just talking about weight, it is the heavier woman on the left every time. Did you hear me the heavier woman I find more attractive and sexually appealing. If I wanted to go out with a girl that is built like a boy, I would just go out with a boy. Women for me need to have weight. I like women that look like the women that Rubens painted.
Jayne ~ maybe a good move - ha ha!
Tania ~ trackies and t-shirt - always good!
Lou ~ you are too precious. And it's true what you're saying. It was more the irony that I found interesting about these shows - one says you must lose weight - the other says embrace who you are!
Dr Cason ~ Agreed! There wasn't anything healthy about either the supersize OR the superskinny.
Widdle Shamrock ~ I can definitely recommend Trinny and Susannah for 'what to wear' and 'what not' - it's hard though isn't it
Moneythoughts ~ That is reasuring to know - and I'm sure my readers have breathed a sigh of relief too.
I am the same - I prefer a well built man to a skinny, skinny one - but that's just me.

I seem to be the odd one out as I don't agree with anyone.
There's nothing attractive about fat and I believe that given the option we would all choose skinny.
I've been super fat and it ain't no picnic, it isn't attractive nor is it in any way healthy.
When you give up trying to lose the weight ask yourself - what else would you just give up on?
I don't think we should stop living life cause we have an extra pound or 50, I also don't think we should give up the fight either.
Life happens and along comes 50 lbs, letting life roll over you and keep you 50 or so pounds heavier is a waste of your time and a waste of your life.
To the gym everyone!!
