He didn't pass his driving test.
He didn't need to tell me, his face said it all.
I have had a good look at the report, and the driving test officer spoke to me about the result.
He failed him because he didn't look left and right while driving through intersections where he had right of way (eg a green traffic light driving through a 3 lane main road).
I don't do that, do you?
Also because he didn't check his rear vision mirror when stopping at an intersection, because there 'may have been a log truck behind him' was how the test officer explained it.
Hmmmm......
I'm an advocate of for safe driving,
I believe they should be well competent,
but when the points for each section add up to 21 required, and he achieved 31 in total and didn't fail any of the major parts of the test.....
Anyway it's been a long day!
I was checking his registration certificate last night and discovered his registration had expired (stupid service Tas hadn't sent him the renewal) I couldn't pay for it online because I didn't have the renewal, and didn't realise it was due today.
So I trekked into the city at 9.00am to get that sorted.
$272 - 6 months rego for him to pay.
He then drove me to meet his driving instructor for a driving lesson ($50 for 45 minutes, I'm in the wrong job!), so I went and washed his car while I waited.
Harry the hairy huntsman decided to come scurrying out from under the bonnet while I was washing it....EEEEKKKKK!
Then a quick trip home and we headed down for the test.
We had a dose of rescue remedy each.....
I waited slightly nervously for 40 minutes while he had the test.
We then had to go into the city again to pay another $54 and book him in for another test, he has to wait 28 before he can go again (who knows why).
We then came home and mucked around for what seemed like 5 minutes and it was time to take him to work.
So an expensive and not successful day for him,
hopefully he'll have a good night at work.
I told him he just didn't want to pass cos he'd miss his old Mum driving around with him, I got a reassuring pat on the shoulder for that :)
He knows I'm slightly not looking forward to this next step of independence (not that I'd try and discourage him!!!).
Growing up with ADD I have always needed to do a lot more for Z17 - to help him be organised, to help him remember things, to help him stay calm and unstressed, to help his self esteem - so when it's time to let go of that it feels very strange.
But boy I'm so proud of what he's been able to achieve...so very proud...
Gotta go....starting to tear up :)

I think its pretty rare for them to pass them young boys) first go...its probably a good thing as they become extra vigilant and arent quite so cocky....and they do get cocky.
I feel for him though...
..and just quietly, I can hear your sigh of relief :0)
Michelle ~ I think the pass rate is 1 in 4.
Mind you some of the young blokes I see driving around I seriously wonder how they ever passed.
I am a bit relieved, I wasn't 100% sure that he was ready - I probably would have been sitting at home freaking out for the next two weeks waiting for him to get home from work if he'd passed today.
So another month to prepare :)

Indeed :)
It's all about revenue. Fail 'em, fleece 'em!!!!
Hope the bustard gets a bad case of jock rash!!! No excuse for being mean.
I used to hate waiting and waiting till the car or the motorbike and sons were home safe. You lose lots of sleep due to that.lol
I hope you get better soon and find out what the hell the problems are..
off to Melb on Mon, back following Mon.
Keep well.
D.from Sarina Qld.
next time for sure- by this time in a few months he will own the road xxx
The very first time i went for my licence, the gear stick was jammed, and i looked at the instructor quizzically?
He said 'FAIL!'
You need to know how to fix things in a car. Get out!
Shook my confidence for a year but I am glad now.
Maybe next time is the right time.

That's so hard - but now he knows what he needs to do to pass the next time he tests. And maybe bring the tester a doughnut or two to nibble on during the drive. *wink, wink*
Anonymous ~ EXACTLY - $54.00 each time - and some have to try a few times....Grrr. Have fun in Melb!!!
Lisa ~ I think so too - just not quite ready this time it seems.
Natalie ~ What a prick. They're just the sort of things that put you off driving/getting your licence!
Lou ~ Yes, cos I don't think a low cut top is going to work for him - ha ha ha!

That's a shame, G.
