Phew!

I managed to get an appointment for Possum at 11am.

He has a severe vitamin D deficiency - as in normal range starts at 50 - his level was 16.

It could be through lack of sunshine, not enough vitamin D in his diet, or that he not storing vitamin D as he should.

I am so thankful it's something we can fix.

I am also very thankful my GP is so thorough, to have this level long term isn't good.

He is to take 3 vitamin D per day for the next month, then 1 per day, then in 8 weeks go back for re-testing.

Looking forward to a new energised Possum.....

Here in the U.S., Vitamin D is routinely added to milk, so that kids get enough. Vitamin D is made in you by sunshine - and what with sunblock and indoor lifestyles, kids don't get the Vitamin D they should. Good that it's been discovered that he is low - now he can begin to recover his strength and energy.

Lou ~ I suggested that he lay across the bonnet of his car in his knickers...he just didn't seem to take to the idea!
His diet is pretty good, I think it's being inside in front of the computer at college, then often straight to work that's run him down.
Driving now instead of walking too.
Also it's Winter here so not a lot of outdoor time.
His doctor feels he will improve quite quickly on his tablets :)

Doctors have been saying for years that they were seeing a drop in Vit D levels and a return of Rickets!
Glad he hasn't got the bandy legs!

Nikki ~ Still not 100% - it takes time for the vitamin D to kick in I am told....hopefully soon!!
